Subtle-Body Literacy

Learn what a term belongs to before deciding what an experience means. Discernment protects both the practitioner and the traditions being studied.

A shared vocabulary is not a single system

Subtle-body language can gather many traditions into one loose collection. This page keeps distinctions visible. A term may name a structure, force, practice, experience, interpretive model, relationship, or ethical discipline. Similarities can be worth studying without becoming proof that every tradition says the same thing.

Terms in context

Aura

An interpretive model or reported experience of an energetic atmosphere around a person; it is not a universal technical term with one settled meaning.

Chakras

A family of Indian and tantric subtle-body maps involving centers, practices, and philosophical systems.

Meridians

Channels used in Chinese medical and cultivation traditions; they belong to their own systems of theory and practice.

Kundalini

A Sanskrit tradition-specific concept and practice language. It should not be reduced to any intense sensation or emotional surge.

Reiki

A modern Japanese healing practice with its own lineage and training forms.

Dream and imaginal experience

Experiences that may be meaningful, symbolic, emotional, or spiritual, but require context and discernment rather than automatic certainty.

Ori

A Yoruba framework of inner head, destiny, character, orientation, and spiritual governance; it is not simply another name for a chakra.

Body of Light

An Ancestral Egbe developmental synthesis for an integrated spiritual vessel, informed by several traditions but not identical to any one of them.

A simple discernment practice

  1. Describe the experience in plain language before giving it a spiritual name.
  2. Notice its effect on sleep, relationships, work, mood, and grounding.
  3. Ask what framework you are using and whether you have learned it from a responsible source.
  4. Choose ordinary care first when the experience brings fear, confusion, or instability.
  5. Let Ori, character, lineage responsibility, and lived results guide interpretation.
